Big Wednesday Surf Club / Kids Club

Thanks to the level of interest in the Big Wednesday Surf Club that ran throughout the summer holidays for children aged 6 to 16. We are running a kids surf club on a Saturday morning at 10:00 - 12:30.

Following a similar format to the Big Wednesday Club the Saturday surf club will allow children to improve their surfing in a safe and friendly environment with other children of similar ages. Whilst primarily focussing on surfing techniques and catching waves in the water, the club will also work on surf fitness, water safety and aspects of surfing. Like the big wednesday club, these sessions will be available for the special price of £15pp including all equipment. All you need to bring is swimwear and a towel. You can come to as many or as few sessions as you like.

The Endless Winter - A Very British Surf Movie.

The launch of this hotly anticipated film is finally here. Nationwide free screenings will kick off from the 30^th August and will continue throughout September and October.

It will be screened at Tyneside Cinema on Sunday 9^th September. Tickets are free and available for the web address below, which also includes more details about the film and other screenings.

Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Tour 2012

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its fifth year in the UK, helps keep Britain's Beaches “barefoot friendly.”

It will be visiting Tynemouth Longsands on Saturday 4^th August 2-5pm. Meet opposite the Grand Hotel to take part.

In 2012, Barefoot Wine and the Surfers Against Sewage along with community volunteers are embarking on a tour of 14 cleanups nationwide.

Surfers Against Sewage is the UK's leading environmental charity protecting oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably.

Surfers Against Sewage

On Saturday 26th May the Surfers Against Sewage eduction tour will be visiting Tynemouth Longsands.

Surfers Against Sewage’s innovative environmental education programme will be visiting the North East of England from the 21^st to 26^th May, with the support of the Quiksilver Foundation. The SAS education team will be visiting locations from Mablethorpe to Newcastle, visiting schools and colleges along the way.

SAS educational sessions provide up-to-date information and local actions that can be taken by the students in tackling marine pollution, complementing the cross-curricular syllabus at primary and secondary levels.

The event will take place in front of Tynemouth Surf School & Longsands RNLI base.

New Surfcam & Weather Information

The all Tynemouth SurfCam is live. Located in close proximity to the surf shop the camera is capable of giving you both a static image and realtime view of the conditions on Tynemouth Longsands in resolutions upto HD 1280x720P. The Camera is also capable of operating in Low Light conditions so you can still see the conditions on those dark winter mornings and evenings and often through the night as well.

Additionally it is possible to view the current weather conditions, updated every 10 Minutes. This includes the Temperature, Wind Speed and Direction, Rainfall and more.

New Website Live

The redesigned website is now live. The new site has been completely revamped and includes all the usual information as well as the ability to check the current surf right from your computer, no more inaccurate surf forecasts, no having to phone a friend, see for yourself!

North East Open

The next leg of the UK Pro Surf Tour is set to be the North East Open being held on the weekend of the 23^rd to 24^th October at Longsand Beach, Tynemouth. This will be the fifth leg of the UK Pro Surf Tour 2010.

The event supported by North Tynemouth Council, will be giving pro-surfers the chance to compete at one of the best venues on the North East coastline.

Surfing interests include current tour leader and last years event champion Russell Winter from Newquay. Also South African Reubin Pearce who has won the tour twice, most recently in 2008. In addition taking part will be past North East Champion and current British Champion Johnny Fryer.

Dave Reed, Director UK Pro Surf Tour further explains: “It is great to be coming back to Tynemouth one of my favourite locations on the tour. This year we will also include an event on the Groundswell Pro Junior Tour. Pro Junior contests help the development in competitive surfing in the UK.”

Once again Relentless will not only be providing endless supplies of energy drink but also the £250 manoeuvre prize. King of Watersports.com will be providing Sector 9 Skateboards for the highest scoring wave in the Pro Junior and Open divisions.

Xperience 2010

2010 marks the third annual Xperience Festival…but this time with a twist!
Xperience10 will host a series of action-packed extreme sports weekends and special one-off events throughout the year instead of the usual two-day festival.

Events already confirmed include; the annual UKPSA North East Surf Open, a skatepark event and competition with fantastic giveaways, music and urban art, and new for 2010 – the Tynemouth Surf Film Festival, a three-day event with lots of surf film screenings, and special one-off attractions.

Xperience 2010 promises to be an exciting year for anyone who loves an adrenaline rush or simply likes to embrace the great outdoors and have lots of fun down at the coast with friends.

Xperience09

A free weekend of extreme sports action at the coast, Xperience'09 featured BMX, in-line skating, surfing and snow sports – perfect for those who like an adrenaline rush. Taking place in Tynemouth, Xperience'09 played host to thousands of extreme sport enthusiasts from across Europe.

Spectators were able to join in on the action and learn from the very best in the business. With over 20 years of experience, Team Extreme did not disappoint with their exhilarating performances. Other highlights included a live music stage, urban art and more.

Meanwhile, surfers from around the world competed for prize money and tour points in the UKPSA North East Open, part of the Triple Crown of Surfing.
